Deciphering the Meaning: Prelogue

Dreams, how do you define that? Is it the work of “The Sandman”? Is it the work of “Bogie Man”? Or is it the manifestation of our inner conscience. I say it’s the manifestation of our inner conscience. Sometimes it can be the work of the Sandman and at times it’s the work of The Bogie Man.

Let's break it up a little bit, what do you say? Alright, our mind has two major parts they are our conscious mind and our unconscious mind. Our conscious mind does all our voluntary thinking. Whereas our unconscious mind does the rest. We often term it as wandering. When you are all by yourself you often hear a voice inside your mind talking to you. That is the triggered by our unconscious mind.

You must be thinking what has that got to do with the topic at hand, well it does, as that is the source. Dreams are not always the definitive manifestation of our unconscious mind. But you can say when your unconscious mind needs to draw your attention it will be through your dreams.

Let me ask you this, how many of you had the dream of falling into a dark endless pit and before you hit the bottom you wake up. Did you ever question what is the significance of that dream? Is it random? Is it only me who has that dream or is it with many? Well, need not worry, that is the entire idea behind sharing this blog with you. By the end of it you would know what that signifies.

If you don't mind, let's dwell on few more questions. Now that we have defined a premise and concluded dreams are the manifestation of our unconscious mind, what about children? Why do we see little kids smile and cry while sleeping? Our grand parents have always said they were dreaming. So my question is, does a little kid have a conscious and an unconscious mind. Or is it something hereditary? Sounds intriguing, isn't it? In our later posts I'll try to answer all these queries, with my limited ability of reasoning.

Until then, I bid adieu for today. Please don't forget to write your queries and comments. Also if you have a repetitive dream and you are bewildered about it, I can try to assist you in understanding that. Keep dreaming.

  1. I seriously don't remember when i had a dream last time. But if feel if we think of something too much before sleep or you don't get sound sleep you end up dreaming.. its just a guess, may not be technically correct.

    1. First of all thanks a bunch for taking some time and providing with your valuable input. I must mention my intention is not to dwell on the technicality of the matter, I'm sure you would find more than enough material on the web to give you that insight. My intention is to talk about perception and as you know, no perception is incorrect. Spot on my friend.

  2. Barnic. Firstly, as a relatively new blogger myself, I have to say with a sense of relief that it is nice to see others going through the process at the same time. Almost like a blogger's solidarity of sorts. Therefore good luck with the blog.

On the blog itself, I really enjoyed your musings on the interpretation of dreams. Your philosophical mutterings and your writing style are reflective of certain post-material american scribes (and I suspect, given your musical influences, the presence of certain musicians of the 70's as well). It has been a while that I have read anything in this style and I enjoyed it.

However, a word of caution, as you are entering the world of free speech and internet anonymity. Your current readership may be limited to your friends, but with any luck, it will spread. In that case be careful of using phrases such as 'defining a premise' and 'concluded'. They require logical interpretation. In a blog we are telling people what one is and what the other is (as you have done). It is not a scientific exercise. Therefore, to give your own views on what a dream is (please remember even if what you say is true, it is still your own view unless backed by either scientific evidence or theoretical and logical interpretation and acknowledgement) and then to arrive at a further interpretation from your initial unauthorised theory is neither a premise nor a conclusion, logically.

I only say this because in this open space of the internet, such things are bound to attract certain individuals bent on shredding even the slightest hint of assumption. Unless of course you ride in religious circles (which I don't think you do). In that case assumption is the only requirement!! (A little early morning dry humour there for you... hehe)

Again good luck with your blog and here's a link to mine (would appreciate criticisms and comments if you have any): http://oncrowdedstreets.blogspot.co.uk/

    1. Can't thank you enough for the input(s), You have given me the idea of using a disclaimer at the beginning, do you think that can be helpful? As my intention is to dwell on the perception, I have not intention of falsifying any existing research. As you have very aptly mentioned "right to free speech", I intend to use it, however just as a point of view.

  3. "the dream of falling into a dark endless pit and before you hit the bottom you wake up. Did you ever question what is the significance of that dream?"

Actually, I did questioned myself about this, and as per my readings its' because of our sleeping posture. while one is sleeping, the 5 sense organs stops working as the conscious mind is sleeping. And If any of our body part is disoriented/blood is not able to circulate in some parts of our body because of the posture of sleeping, then the unconscious mind which is awake all the time comes into effect and creates a dream from your darkest memories and gives a shake to your entire body just to awake the conscious mind and to change your sleeping posture.
This entire dream thing happens in less than 3 seconds from the moment unconscious mind detects that there is a problem with your sleeping posture...

And thats the story of falling dream. Correct me if I am wrong.

    1. Atanu, thanks a bunch for the note my friend. Excellent research work on the technicality. I completely concur with your opinion. However, if you don't mind, let me introduce you to a different school of thought, what if the fall signifies loss of control. In our regular (sometimes extraordinary) life we always face this dilemma of not being in control, be it in the matter of heart, be it in the matter of scattered socio-economic paradigm shifts. The vague idea of being in control slips away from our hand every day leaving us helpless. What if the image our mind creates to signify that is the so called dream of falling into the endless dark pit.
